She was a little embarrassed by the house, and not because it was shabby. Far from it, in fact. She'd got the condo in New York in the divorce, and when she'd sold it, she'd had to spend that money on a new place, or she'd lose it to taxes. Anna had ended up with a six bedroom, six-and-a-half bathroom home in one of the most prestigeous areas of Las Vegas. It was entirely too much for a single homicide detective and her cat.
"Um, this is . . . my place," she said. "Make yourself at home. There's beer in the fridge, if you want one."

"I don't normally keep it in the house," she told him as she entered the kitchen. "The beer, I mean. I don't drink a lot. And my parents are . . ."
Anna trailed off and watched him lean against the counter. He looked perfectly at home in her kitchen. The thought flitted through her mind about where else he'd look good.
"I figured we could go out to the back patio. There's plenty of room out there. I've also got a pool, which I was really excited about."

With his hands on her, she could barely think. And it was too damned hot still. She yanked off her shirt, revealing her lace bra and the bullet scar on her stomach.

Anna unfastened her jeans and pushed them over her hips to fall to the floor, leaving her in a thong that matched the bra. The heated look in his eyes was the only thing that kept her from being embarrassed over her less-than-perfect body.
