Aly was singing as she wiped down the counters after supper, putting one last bowl in the dishwasher before turning the machine on. She jumped a little when the phone rang, then laughed at herself.

"Hello?"

"Hello." He hadn't expected Aly to answer. It threw him off for a moment to hear her voice, nearly made him reconsider the phone call. He wasn't entirely sure why he'd called in the first place.

"How are you?" Is Karr still angry with me?

Aly paused, trying to place the voice.

"Kitt? Hi! How are ... is everything is OK?" she changed questions mid-stream. Kitt never called.

Karr looked over the back of the couch, one eyebrow raised. This should be an interesting one-sided conversation...

Kitt never called, he never wrote. He had enough of a conscience to feel guilty about that, and he winced.

"Things are getting better, slowly. Has Karr told you what happened?" He thought he knew the answer to that, but best to make sure.
