The Video

Video Beheading You have to watch the commercial, brought to you today by colonial house.

I feel a little disappointed at Salon for posting this, I'm not sure why, it is news but to put the video out there for us to see? I expected better from them. I haven't watched it, Mrs Wook and I discussed it last night and both agreed we wouldn't watch ( Read more... )

i saw the beginning of the video on the GMA this morning, but they stopped it before it got to the beheading. i don't think i could watch it either. just watching that brought me to tears.

it sickens me that people can treat each other so cruelly. he was there helping them rebuild for fuck's sake!

*shakes head* that's okay. they will get theirs. sooner or later.

from what i heard yesterday on the news, he went to iraq to look for work. but he was actually ARRESTED by the army a couple weeks ago. his family is questioning why he wasn't sent back to the states at that time. a few days ago, they sued the defense dept for the treatment of their son and for not following protocol and send their son home. but now, they're not sure what to do about that.

I don't know what to think about Salon posting a link to the video. On the one hand, I don't like having information withheld from me. On the other, no one should have to have their death be so public. Mainly I just feel terrible for him and his family.

On the one hand I'm all about the freedom of press but on the other hand I kinda expect a higher moral ground from my news source. If I wanted to see that video I'm sure I could have googled it and found it somewhere, on either a site extolling its virtures or evils depending on your take of it.

I was shocked that MSNBC had a picture of Nick Berger on their website with a knife to his throat.

And FoxAnt, imagine that an American citizen being held by his own gov't w/o due process or a laywer.

Yet the gov't didn't have him in custody. Yet the FBI was at his parents house confirming his story.

The crazy thing is I can't stop thinking about that poor guy's parents. I look at him and see BabyWook and it makes me sad.

I'm torn on that, too. Just like when there was argument over whether we should air Timothy McVeigh's execution, I could see both sides of the argument. On the one hand, it seemed barbaric, but on the other, we should really understand what really did happen. I will not watch it either. I'm already outraged and I don't need to be more outraged.

One thing to remember about both Daniel Pearl's and Nick Berg's beheading--these were acts done by extremists NOT by the average Arab people. (While unfortunately, the abuse in the prisons were done by American soldiers.)
