Ummm....wow *SPOILERS*

Hi, I'm new here but I've been interested in ABe's work ever since "Haibane Renmei" and in 2004, I got into "Texhnolyze" by buying and viewing only the first DVD. Four years later on this day (that took a long time), I finally got myself the complete Collector's Box off of E-Bay and I'm eager to start watching it soon. However, because I heard so ( Read more... )

The funny thing is, I've even spoiled myself by *reading* how the ending goes. Yet, when I saw it, I was not ready for the emotional impact that still hit me. Words can't describe just how it goes, nor does it provide the musical cues that make it so poignant. Reading was one thing; seeing was another, entirely.

Just...man, it's painful. Yet, I don't find it completely a downer or pessimistic (already mentioned why) and that's why I find it so touching. Ichise's easily one of my favorite Top 5 characters and the grace note they gave him after all the crap he's been through is so...humane.

*sniffs*

Shame how that turned out... ;_; His burial of her was so lovingly done that I get a lump in my throat every time I rewatch the ending (which has lost none of its potency).

I know some people get turned off by Ichise in the beginning because he doesn't talk much. Yet, his taciturn nature drew me in - as in, I want to know more about this guy - and when his limbs get lopped off, I felt so bad for the guy. From there on, I really rooted for him. (Gotta love the underdog).

Ichise's monologue to Ran when he's heading over the Opera House is beautiful. I really sensed his change and when "Ran" is walking aside him, it's an evocative reminder of how important she's become to him. It's very chilling foreshadowing when after he asks her, "Have you changed since I've met you?" and immediately, on her side, a Shape shows up. Gives me goosebumps, now that I look back on.

Wow. We know this on some level (that's why we like this show when most of the world doesn't), but you explained it so well. ^^

Watch the whole thing. It's sad and depressing stuff, but I hope you like it.

It's the ending song for most of the episodes that got me. After all that pain in each episode, you are reminded by this slow haunting song that all is not so bad in the world.

I'm sure I will. (Having it sticking needles of reminders in you on-and-off for four years really told me something about it stuck). I like sad, realistic, and serious anime. I think I've been heading for more seinen/mature stuff a long time ago. It's not the pastel, happy anime that lingers long after the fact - it's shows like these.

I haven't heard that one, yet. The one that Gackt sang? I keep looping Yoko Ishida's song and the lyrics are absolutely beautiful. I love the final stanza in particular - I see it as more uplifting than downright depressing.

Well, I just finished watching it in two nights. Goddamn. Wow. Just...wow. What all of them go through as things go to hell in a handbasket is so saddening. Pity that Lacan went down like that and Onishii... ;_; That guy had to be one of the most human, if not one of the most honorable characters in the entire series. I almost feel like his life later paralleled Ichise's - he also lost everything that he had. His wife, his organization turned on him, his secretary, and in the end, his life and body (that was sickeningly brutal). All because he wasn't willing to satiate the collective human appetite for murder, mayhem, and blood ( ... )

The ending cemented it into my mind as one of the greatest animes of all time. It was just brilliant to me.

I, too, am the type who digs around for spoilers. I read so much about the ending before watching it and was still just amazed when I actually got to it.

If I weren't over a thousand miles from my DVDs, I'd totally rewatch them right now. ♡

If it can socker-punch me a good one, it counts as an excellent ending. The fact that it's so unexpected - did anyone expect him to die well? - is what makes it stand out even more so. I also read about the ending but seeing it was a totally different experience; words fail to do it justice.

Apparently, I'm blessed or cursed with a good memory. I can remember the ending completely with vocal track. That tends to leave me subdued, remembering that.
