Going by the last 2 - 4 episodes of the series, the situation posed to us in Texhnolyze is the 'death of humanity', as opposed to Nietzsche's and Hardy's "death of God". Of course things could've have been prevented if certain actions were taken at different times, but then it just wouldn't have been the same story. Ran gave out warnings to Ichise numerous times that he'd bring disaster if he stayed on his current path, but that's not to say that disaster would've struck anyways had he just done nothing. Everything ended not as hoped, but as it was meant to. The flower projected by Ichise's arm at the very end is a sort of culmination of everything that has happened and a final message of sorts.

I'd add that Ran was the sort of person who accepted the future as i was, and never tried to change it. Besides, how much of Ichise's actions could exactly been prevented ? I still remember the words of the Organo Godfather (everybody called him GreatFather, but I think Godfather), describing that the words of the Speaker shouldn't be really trusted.

Also, in the end, Ichise only hurt a few people, as opposed to Ran's prediction of many. Did he end up alone ? Yes.

In a sense, I'm wondering if the actiosn of Texhnolyze are 'fated', or if free will also played a part.
