Elderly grandfather kicked out of B&N

What has this country come to? This guy was summarily ejected from Barnes and Noble for being in the kids' section unaccompanied by a kid. WTF?? Because someone was "uncomfortable"? I want to know this woman's name so she can be publicly shamed for being a nosy douche ( Read more... )

I just wish he'd finished out the article with a quote like "I'll be shopping at Amazon from now on."

Yeah, though I was pretty happy with, "Maybe I should have picked some strange kid to go to the store with me so they would leave me alone." The irony there just slays me.

there are many places, esp "play lands" that are fun for adults groups, but not singles, esp not men.

my local B&N did have a sign about unaccompanied adult, i THINK, i'd have to go look, but i really don't like the store's prices and shopping policy, and tend to shop elsewhere unless i NEED IT NOW.

course, could be ... worse. sometimes people call the cops on you if you are a man alone with a child, esp if the child "doesn't look like yours". then it gets interesting.

WTF!?!?!?

So, if my husband goes into a B&N alone to buy a book for shrimpy he could get kicked out? HOLY CRAP THATS STUPID.

I know, right? Though it did occur to me reading the article and seeing the guy's name, that it might have been partly an ethnic thing too. In no way would that make this any better, but I have to wonder if that was a part of it.

How ridiculous! Are men not supposed to have children that they love and care for and want to buy books for in their life? What a disturbing world, where you can't be a father or grandfather or uncle without some creep thinking you're a pedophile! Sex offenders are thankfully rare. Good parents and grandparents are thankfully common. What the hell is wrong with that person's risk analysis?

A big part of the problem, IMO, is lack of accountability. Did that woman speak up in front of the man shopping? No. She went about it anonymously - using the store employee.

I hope that woman feels like utter crap now.

I hope so too, but my cynical side says differently.
