G1 Swindle. Prompt: Squishies

Squishies

Swindle considered the row of flashing unanswered messages in his HUD. All of them those strange ‘words’ which came from wherever and you were supposed to have something to say about.

He did this with a certain wariness. Last time he answered one of these resulted in that voice recording which went by mistake to his gestalt partners. Even though Swindle had returned to the caves and to the world of his sparkmate, away from other matters best avoided at this point in time , the  events of a few days ago  were still vivid, and it was less easy this time to separate thoughts of the gestalt from his life in the caves.

Answering one of the flashing things would be a welcome distraction. Yes - and he would make another recording again, he thought. One which this time would be OK to transmit ‘out there’ to everyone. He’d learned from the last time. It was so easy to make mistakes in this place.

[SWINDLE COMMS OUT ON GENERAL FREQUENCY]

// Squishies

// I haven’t really had anything to do with any since I’ve been here. Oh - I know they’re around. I saw them in Haven, and I’ve seen some wandering around Nexusville from time to time. Mind you, they seem like an odd assortment. None of them seem like the  ones I dealt with back on Earth.

// I don’t know why I haven’t had more to do with them. I was quite good with them really. They were all right - from the point of view of doing deals. Quite easy to manage really, the ones I met. Just the same as anyone else out to make a profit. Even so called  ‘important’ ones. And I dealt with them just as I would have any other customer - find out what they want, keep them happy, make sure they get something out of it whilst ensuring most importantly that I did. Yeah, no different.

// I mean, I’m talking about the arms dealers. Not about that bunch of stupid kids I was trying to get that robot off. The one which had Brawl’s personality component in it. Or the types I was forced to confine my activities to after - that happened. \\

Swindle paused, his intakes letting out a sigh and shutting off the com. He knew very well why he’d been avoiding any contact with squishies in this place. It was because he could not think of squishies with out thinking of - that incident. Of the whole series of events which led to him selling his team mates’ parts and the dreadful aftermath of unforgiving wrath which existed to this day, even despite his bitter regrets.  And he also knew that any recording would not really be complete without mention of that incident. But he could hardly bear to think of it again, let alone say something about it on an open com.

All roads lead back to that, he thought bitterly. Even thoughl there’s nothing I can do about it now. I can’t change the past! But I’m not saying anything cos nobody would see it that way.

So he continued:

// My later dealings with squishies on Earth were fairly lightweight. I just sold ordinary type ones trinkets and bits and pieces they seemed to like. It just seemed like taking on international arms dealers again would be pushing it a bit with  Megatron and - well - the team, of course. Being just a small time salesmech like that kept me occupied and out of their way. When we weren't fighting the Autobots or doing Bruticus practise, that is.

// Then after the Unicron thing I never dealt with any more squishies. I was too busy getting in fights all the time for Galvatron and Cyclonus. A lot of Decepticons weren’t too savvy about business, so I got to negotiate with Quintessons. And others. At least I was back in my partners’ good books again. Sort of. Well, all except Vortex, anyway, that is.

Swindle wondered how much you were supposed to say about these ‘words,’ and concluded, rather irritably, that  he’d done quite enough. So he finished up with:

// Yeah well, as I said ages ago now, if anyone wants anything I can try and get it. And maybe I’ll make more efforts with squishies. That could be cool. We’ll see.

Steering his thoughts away from both squishies and the gestalt, he hoped, fondly, that he’d see his sparkmate again soon. He also wondered, out of interest, just what that cassette had been up to since their last meeting.
