Summery: Scorponok talks about Predacon culture
Prompt: 1, ‘Staking a claim’
Author’s Note: It started out as Scorponok telling someone about Megatron after he had died, turned into an exploration of Predacon culture. I’m not even sure if it counts as a fic anymore. Mods? Help?

It’s not like here, Predacon culture. Things are different there, there isn’t enough to go around, and it’s always been that way. Only the strong and the smart are able to stand by themselves, able to get energon, credits, and housing. The rest cope, develop alliances. The strong and the smart, the really smart ones, they usually become leaders, gather groups of not-so-strong or not-so-clever or not-so-lucky mechs, brings them under his protection form the others, gives them housing and energon, and gets their services in return. That was Megatron. It wasn’t always just the five of us following him, though. Once, he had dozens of mechs following him, scattered all throughout the Predacon sectors.

But, he choose the five of us to take to Earth, in search for energon.

But, in the past, back before he was a Leader, able to stand on his own and stake a claim on others, he was the step below, a Warrior. Warriors tend to group in twos and threes, usually with other Warriors, although sometimes with smaller mechs, techs or medics or the like, no Warrior chooses their partners exactly the same way as the others. Dinobot had, mega-cycles ago, chosen, or been chosen by, Megatron. I’m not sure even they know how it happened, or even if it was conscious. They were unstoppable, though, and when Megatron had enough power and prestige to shift gears and become a Leader, he keep Dinobot around as his lieutenant. Ungrateful aft.

Below the Warriors, are the techs, medics, scientists and the like. These are the ones smart enough to be able to group with a Warrior, but not strong enough to be one. That’s Tarantulas, of course. He can hold his own, but he needs help, and support when against a large group, so he set his optics on joining Megatron, hoping to be brought into the top level of trusted mechs, high enough to get his name out there, and to get the good jobs.

And the step below that, is myself. Those too dumb or slow or weak to attract the Warriors to be their tech or medic, unable to fight against any mech higher than them on the hierarchy. They- we fill out the lower ranks of any Leader’s group, able to fight, in a group, work on tech, with supervision, fill out the lower ranking jobs any gang/army/team needs filled.

Like I said, things are different there. Can I go now?
