On becoming Carol

Aug 11, 2007 21:06

It’s been a while since I’ve posted here; I’ve been busy working as a glass bevel grinder. When I started the job, in the first week of July, it didn’t take me long to realize that the degree of the tremors I have as a side effect of the medications I’m on is not compatible with hand grinding glass. So far I’ve only ruined a few pieces and I’m the ( Read more... )

Thanks Amy. I have such mixed feelings about the name change. I feel it’s long overdue, and that I’m not ready. Monday I’m going to try to figure out which form I need from the DMV to get an ‘F’ on my drivers license. I know that form has to be signed by a medical doctor stating the person has taken significant steps to alter their gender, and I have done that. I see my doctor on Thursday, from there I intend to go to the court to get the orders and from there I’ll head straight to the Social Security office and then to my bank to order checks. I wish I could take a week off to accomplish everything I need to do ( ... )

Well, I have an online friend who has done fine without anti-psychotics even though she hallucinates a lot, so it's certainly possible.

The problem *I* see is that, even WITH an anti-psychotic, you have breakthrough psychosis frequently, and you've had some real doozy psychoses. Why do you think the Zyprexa is responsible for the tremors, because that would be the only reason to cut it.

Also, obviously you need to talk to people at the GIC and the DMV to find out what the scoop REALLY is, but the two tranny-oriented sites I looked up indicate that, as of 2002, you CANNOT change your legal sex without SRS. That's got to be wrong, because we both know people without SRS who have done just that. So I don't know -- good luck with that process!

I wouldn't screw with your meds overly much, C.J.. Yes, you know WAY more than the average bear, but I'd still be working with your psychiatrist on this. All the med changes I've made since switching docs were approved by her.

Big changes in your life, indeed! :)

Olanzapine (Zyprexa) with lithium or valproate (Depakote). . . (n=229) 23% reported tremor as an adverse reaction. Maybe I’ve just switched tremor sources. Wellbutrin is a much less likely candidate. I didn’t notice any studies of Seroquel with mood stabilizers, it’s an option. The other thing I’m concerned with is the cost of the meds without insurance. Lithium monotherapy is the cheapest option I have ( ... )

Gosh yes, the newspaper thing has gotten all fouled up and that put the rest of the plan on hold. I’ve been trying for a week to get proof that the paper placed an ad that I paid way too much for ( ... )

I didn’t I originate this rule for naming kids, but when Moon Unit Zappa was born I took it to heart. I remember my Grandma Tillie telling a pregnant aunt to be sure not to name the baby with something you’d be embarrassed to yell in public.

As always, if there is anything your curious about, just ask.
