OK -- there are several things different. Probably none of them make much difference for you so overall there's probably no good reason for you to switch ( ... )

Is it dickheady to consider their business model fatally flawed? And that all their touchy-feely intentions will disappear once the site reaches critical mass so that they have to start buying some serious server access?

DW itself doesn't annoy me, the DW obsessives do.

Hmm, strange that those who moan about LJ stay here? ;-)

It's like the little kid who storms out, then opens the door and say 'still going!'. 'No I really am!' 'THIS time!' 'Definitely going now!'

I don't see LJ going down the tubes, just yet. Dreamwidth might get good when they mature past the oh-so-2006 Beta model and start actually doing stuff; I would like the controls over subscribers, that would save so much drama, but still not enough to move. Critical mass has not been reached ;-) It's like YouTube - shit site, shit people, shit rules. People still post there. Why? Cos the people are there. Vimeo is far better...still it's all about YouTube. When that changes, I'll switch (I use both, and more, but YT is where I try and get my videos until Fox or Warners pulls them).

If that makes me a dickhead then so be it. Anyway those bitching about LJ haven't they got 'subscribers' to go and fall out (ooh will they call it DW Drama?) with over the new Star Trek movie or something?

Yours sincerley,

Mr Don't give a shit. :-P

It's kind of like dan_lane says above.

Basically some people are concerned that LJ is now being run by James Bond villians and need to go somewhere that's owned by the beared, sandal-wearing LINUX-Lentil-munchers they feel more comfortable with.

The first time I heard about Dreamwidth, I understood that it was some kind of furry/fanfic type thing but I think human life has settled there since then, on account of all the hype/curiousity.

DreamWidth has a pretty name. LiveJournal sounds old. DW probably appeals to the same people that respond to those "I'm a Mac, I'm a PC" advertisements.
