It is a commonly accepted fact that, in semi-arid to dry regions, one should shake out his or her shoes before putting them on in order to rid them of scorpions, spiders, and other fun things, and that this ritual should be done year-round ( Read more... )

At least it wasn't something that stings (or you caught it before it did).

My personal fave was finding--when naked in the shower without my glasses and soaking wet--one of the big palmetto roaches on the INSIDE (ie with ME) of the shower curtain. I hate it when they get nervous and fly--they are too light so they flutter erratically i.e. toward ME.

Waking up with a scorpion on my hand was another big plus to the day.

Wasn't the stinging kind, it was the biting kind. And I don't think it bit me, but it sure crawled all over. I first felt it on my back, but it was one of those spiders that moves really fast. Then I felt it on my face and saw it in the bathroom mirror. It was about half an inch long, legs included. I let out something that was like half-whimper, half-scream, and it crawled up into my hair. Back into the shower I jumped, rinsed out my hair a few dozen times.

Ew, what did you find?

Personally I think it's bad when you find a missing hamster in your shoe first thing in the morning when you're still half asleep. Poor baby, just absolutely got smooshed. Oops. And it was quite nasty too.

But the worst is on a camping toilet when you sit down and something tries to fly up you. *shudder* It's happened one too many times to me, I'm now afraid of bugs in toilet stalls.

It was a spider. dude! Did the hamster die, or was it just slightly flattened?

I'm not sure if he was dead before I put it on, as he was quite sickly looking, but he was definitely flat.
