oo, oo, who went abroad to wales??? i want to meet this person. i have welsh in me. also, the previous commenter is correct, there has been a magnificently successful cultural resurgence in ireland in the past decade or two that has resulted in a rapidly growing bilingual population. of all the gaelic-speaking countries that england took over (that is, wales, ireland, and scotland), wales is actually the only one that retained its language, minimal as it may have been - it had the best means of reinstituting its language throughout the whole country because it had held onto the language continuously over the years, insisting on their bilingual signs and old ways. feisty welsh folk. the irish and scots had let their gaelics fall into disuse and had to dig to revive them. anyway, sorry to blather on and whatnot, i merely express interest because i will be learning irish soon. :)
