He didn't get a drainage tube, but they did pack the thing with some kind of cotton wicking that has to be replaced regularly.
Preferably daily.
By me.
Damn good thing I was already on a track where this would be a daily part of my life.
I still keep patting him on the butt (it's one of my affectionate gestures), but fortunately today's wince was nothing like the jumping-the-fuck-out-of-his-skin he did on Monday.
I will attempt to document the first wick replacement tomorrow.
I do not have documentation, but I can recount. I'm afraid it's not that interesting. We'll have to make up a better story, eventually.
He had a hair follicle on his ass get infected. This happens all the time to people. Apparently trey is special, because his infection turned into an abscess.
He was complaining that it was uncomfortable (itchy and painful), so I took a close look and determined that it was really infected. Since it's nearly impossible to get an appointment with our regular doctor either on short notice or outside trey's work hours, we went to urgent care, where they lanced it, drained it, and installed a drainage wick.
One of the doctors thinks it could be MRSA (resistant Staph), so I'm to be especially careful about hand washing and sanitation when cleaning the wound, and if it does not resolve or starts to get worse again, we're to rush back to urgent care. He took a culture, and I'm assuming we'll get results by Friday if it is MRSA.
