so it's official that i'm going to carnegie mellon and i couldn't be happier with that. they ended up giving me enough money so that it will actually be cheaper than illinois and mcgill so we sat down and decided that as a family we can make that happen. i cannot wait to study there because i know that the school is just like a breeding pool of ( Read more... )

Yea, that sounds super intimidating, but honestly you can't let yourself think about stuff like that, and especially don't pshych yourself out about dropping out. I can count on two hands how many people that I personally know that have dropped out and after my harmony III episode I didn't really consider it but the thought definitely flickers in the back of my mind some days. As far as seeming like a, "back country sucker," I know that it's comparing apples to oranges, but most of my professors have Grammies, have had their works premiered at Carnegie Hall (ironic), or play in the BSO and have worked with John Williams. Next semester I’m taking advanced counterpoint with someone that worked with Shostakovich and I’m scared shitless… so I guess it is entirely hypocritical for me to be telling you not to be intimidated. I hope that didn't sound pompous with the name-dropping, but bottom line, if you completely immerse yourself in the subject with these professors and show an unwavering level of effort, (which I know you will), ( ... )
