GOOD MOANING INTERNET

It's another wonky day here, I'm smacking my head against some really stupid problems this week. I know that it's not my fault this stuff is going wrong - it just looks like it because they hired me to put the word 'build' in my job title to make it a) suitably difficult to work out exactly what it is they want me to do and b ( Read more... )

Just awakes.
Our gear is all Norse mythology, which is entirely my fault.
Huzzah!

So far we've got Odin as our main piece of heavy metal, Thor as its disk, Freki, and Geri as externals, and my work machine is called Gungnir.

Probably best not to tempt fate with the whole Loki / Fenrir / Ragnarok angle. Unless, you know, I get fired.

:D

Ours are/were all named after characters from The Tempest. Well apart from the one named after Puff the Magic Dragon.

When I was at QV the internal software all had nautical names. So you had WALTER and RALEIGH which was the sales/purchasing software, and its production equivalents were CAPTAIN and PUGWASH.

I have to say what few things I've named have been horribly functional. Like Tracker, which was a production tracker.

My PC and laptop are always called Lothlorien and Rivendell because I'm lame. My bro's always used to be called Shodan which I think is amazing. Any large network I've ever been on that didn't use alphanumeric names tended to favour Greek mythology, weird that. In my student union it was all about the Delphi and Oracle servers though which always filled me with a slight sense of IMMINENT DREAD...I'd have preferred names of Gods or something.

Panic is a good one!

That's so not lame! And notably, yay for LoTR in general - planning on watching all three extended special editions in a single sitting this weekend whilst up in Newcastle. 8D

Hurray for Shodan as well! I loved System Shock 2 and still recommend it to anyone who really wants to be scared out of their minds. Such a good game, shame it was dwarfed by Halflife when it came out.

I forgot to mention that my own home boxes are called Icarus, Cubee, and Digby.

Yay indeed for LotR! I took up archery with aqua_san on the strength of Fellowship, when I were a wee bairn. I've never managed to stay awake through all three extended, though I've tried repeatedly. One New Year that was how I spent it, with a grudging boyfriend. I also went to see them back to back at the iMax in London, which was epic!

I note that Icarus is still in keeping with the Greek theme...? Cubee is my favourite.

In related news, my PC died today. Any thoughts? I had headphones plugged in, and they made a repeating cracking noise really loudly, so loud I didn't realise it was coming just from them at first. In the past I've had headphones plugged in heat up in my ears, so I'm wondering if there's an issue with the case (it's a connection on the case, not the board, at the front). Different mobo since then though. Then it all froze. Then I shut it off at the mains, and when I power it on again it all turns *on* but doesn't boot AT ALL, but no beeps either. I'm sad!

In other news, please be online today, I feel like shitey shite :

We totally failed to watch ANY LoTR films at all. We did however, watch Team America - which was awesome. And played more videogames in 48 hours than I've played all year! Good weekend. I even turned down the opportunity to take a spin in Tom's Lotus Elise because I was nervous I'd like it too much and crash it into a wall.

I've only just remembered, Cubee used to be called Euclid. For the Greek chappy, ofc.

Hope your pc is feeling better, and more to the point - I hope that you are too. I prescribe at least two pints of AWESOME JUICE&trade (Also known as Cherry Coke)
