I'm contributing to the system, the break down scheme

Oct 16, 2008 12:55

Getting back to work after a lovely and very relaxing break at Center Parcs has been a mild shock to the system, but hasn't been too bad to be honest. Still riding along on a wave of un-stress, not really got much to worry about at the moment! Been in the black for ages, mounting quite a pile of savings in prep for our travels next year. Awake, slightly twitchy in the eye region, thinking of switching back to my other lj or/and posting more stuff now that you are.

The idea of music you wish you'd been listening to when you were younger hurts my brain:

'but then your whole music taste would change, what would the ramifications be? They're totally unpredictable! Totally UNPREDICTABLE! GAAAAAAAAH.'

I KNOW! Butterfly effect and alla that. I already listened to a lot of stuff back then that I still listen to now, but it's sometimes frustrating knowing that I could have been loving some of these bands for years rather than weeks :)

Bring back Umbriel!

I really love Songs of the Deaf and some of Rated R, but I never was able to get into the last two Queens of the Stone Age albums :(

As for stoner rock, try the band Boris. If you've heard them and hated them - ignore me XD

I'm listening to some of their preview stuffery on last.fm RIGHT NOW and I like it! Nice one :)

I've had similar troubles with the last 2 qotsa lps, but there are some real standout tracks on both of them. Wouldn't sit down to listen to either of them on their own like I could with their debut and even Rated R. Josh Homme seems to have gone veeery conceptual since Oliveri/Lanegan have left him to it, which definately splits opinion down the middle.

Yeah I think you could take some tracks from Lullabies to Paralyse and Era Vulgaris and come up with a pretty good album between them. Nick Oliveri leaving definitely was a turning point (though I can see why they got rid of him) - and on a random note Josh Homme does a good duet with PJ Harvey on a song called Crawl Home which I recommend.

The album Pink is a good starting point for Boris, but they've done all sorts of stuff, their discography on Wikipedia is pretty sprawling.

Desert Sessions ftw! I got 9&10 the other week for something silly like £5 on play.com, and Crawl Home is a standout track. I love Polly Harvey too, you've just made me want to listen to 'Man-size' because it's ages since I heard it.
