Proverbs 18

Jul 29, 2009 22:37

"Whoever isolates himself seeks his own desire"
but
"a man of many companions may come to ruin."

I hate when I get a mixed message, because generally then my "discernment" between the two is just based on my own feelings. Boo.

(Maybe God has a LiveJournal and will post a reply? ;) )

Perhaps there is a middle ground between isolation and many companions? My interpretation of those two quotes (taken out of context of course, so get your salt bowl ready) would be that you shouldn't be isolated, but rather be discerning in your choice of companions - don't just get all chummy and close with a zillion people. Instead, surround yourself with a select few companions who lift you up, support you, and are, you know, just generally higher quality than your standard grocery-store selection.

(By the way, contrary to popular opinion, I'm not actually God, or even the Megatron. Shocking, I know, but I can't allow misperceptions like this to continue.)

(Also: apologies for any lack of coherency. You know the score there.)
