He rang the doorbell, half-expecting a sleepy Chai, and half-expecting an eager Thai. Yao was greeted somewhere in the middle: surprised.
Surely you haven't forgotten, have you?

Yao gave Chai a few minutes of silence, to ease and relax. Yao should be the one anxious because he is in someone else's house, not the other way around. "Where do you want to begin?"

He allowed himself to sit still before murmuring in a voice that was barely audible, "I had a bad encounter earlier, I guess I'm still..." He shook his head at the thought of it. "Please feel free to make yourself comfortable."
Calmly he stood up and collected three thick textbooks, gently placing them on the table. "These are the textbooks I was told to gather for my course." Chai turned on his heel and went back into the kitchen to arrange a few snacks on a plate, placing it in the center. "Something for you to eat should you feel peckish."
Chai seated himself again, feeling weak from nerves.
