Birth of an อาจารย์ [Action]

There were a good two hours into the lesson. Chai massaged his aching left hand, tired from writing notes. He rose from the chair carrying the plate, now empty save for the crumbs left from assorted cookies. His mind and ears ached from the torrent of words and information that simply streamed from Yao's mouth. A lot of it simply bounced off him ( Read more... )

People do say that when you love something, you tend to get carried away. Which was the case for Yao and his lectures. He got an inkling that he was talking too fast for his student so he tried his best to slow himself and stress the important points. Yao loves to teach people, but he needs work on doing it right. They were on their third session so at least both of them are doing progress.

His string of words related to the similarities between East and Southeast Asia were cut by Chai's question. "I... taught kids for my Civics project - that was long ago - but other than that, no, I haven't."

It seems you want to ask something else. Whatever it is, I'll try to answer it." Yao noticed how the Thai stopped and appeared to have bit his tongue after the question. "I already told you before, don't be shy."

Chai shook his head. "It's fine," he murmured. "It's nothing important." The question was far too delicate and sensitive to be asked now. Matters like these were best dealt with patience, as he knew from experience with his cousin.

Looking at Yao's expression, Chai simply smiled reassuringly before promptly changing the subject. "So you were a teacher before! That makes you an อาจารย์~" He clapped his hands together at the thought.

"So... อาจารย์... where were we?" Chai said, revising his notes.

"I don't think it makes me that, but if you insist." Yao told himself he was half-right that he was dubbed 'teacher' by Chai. He's sure he was not a legitimate instructor, but in the wise words of philosophers they said that anyone can be a teacher. So be it.

He had absentmindedly closed the book he was using for reference. Only after confirming to the Thai that he has no legitimate experience in teaching had he remembered doing so and opened the book, turning some thirty pages back.

"Here we go, Foot binding. "...It was a careful and tedious process, usually done to young girls with the belief of small feet as an image of beauty riding on their backs..." "

Yao continued talking.

Chai's head was reeling from the information. The lesson for the most part was more of the same. Yao's long winded explanations. His own attempt at recording notes at the same pace.

Chai waved goodbye to Yao at the end of the lesson. How could a man know so much? He was fortunate to have อาจารย์Yao as a teacher.
