A night like any other, at the same time like no other. A sense of paranoia had befallen the city of Ametiton ever since the first sightings of the “beast” that was roaming the streets, especially at night. No one knew if it was nocturnal or not but sightings certainly increased after the sun sunk beneath the horizon. But even with this sense of paranoia, people still went about their lives. It seemed a distant observer, so people weren’t too worried.

The city would be turned on its head this night. For this night, four Lupino made their way through the city, returning home from a night of clubbing. One, the son of a famous slaver. The others were his girlfriend, one of their friends, and his girlfriend. The slaver’s son was boasting to the other three just how much influence his father had and all that as they walked along, his words interrupted by a low, rumbling hiss carried on the midnight wind. The group instantly stopped, looking anxiously about. They saw nothing, just the flashing neon lights of the clubs and the few drunks staggering about that’d yet to stumble into some alley for the night.

The friend joked about it being the thing everyone’s been seeing to try and lighten the mood some, but his girlfriend wasn’t happy with his joking, commenting on how that’s too much like a horror movie before something bad happens. The son simply said they shouldn’t worry about and keeping heading back. They could worry about what it was once they got back to his place. The group agreed and they began on their way again.

Anxiety hung thick in the air about them, all of them now unable to shake the feeling that cold, inhuman eyes were watching them with murderous intent. The anxiety was only made worse by the fact that none of them could see, or smell, anything dangerous nearby. The stench of alcohol and drugs hung too heavily in the air. As another low hiss swept by on the wind, they began moving faster, all trying to refrain from showing real fear by breaking into a run.

It didn’t matter. With a flash of movement in front of them, something gargantuan lunged at them, slamming into the son. His girlfriend shrieked, able to feel the monster as it brushed by her at its blinding speed, realizing her boyfriend’s arm was left pin-wheeling away from her, severed cleanly by whatever had just attacked them. Half soaked in blood she fell back and turned, scooting back toward her friends. They knew now that the city’s fears were founded.

Gasping and gurgling as he hung from the monster’s jaws, the son reached out to his friends with his remaining hand, fear spread across his face as needle sharp teeth dug ever deeper into his body. Blood mixed with saliva as the beast hissed again, the vile sound ending in a snarl this time as reptilian lips peeled back, revealing its entire maw.

Without warning, it tossed its head back and opened its jaws, releasing its hapless victim into the air. The son tried to scream but only a blood soaked gurgle escaped his throat as he started to fall again, the last thing he would ever lay eyes on being the blood soaked maw of his bestial attacker. The monster’s jaws slammed shut as if it were a crocodile, its victim’s body falling to pieces on the ground in front of it. Dropping the rest of the remains, it took a step forward toward the rest of the group.

Neon lights reflected off its silver hide, giving it both an eerie and appealing appearance all at the same time. It was something the group could not look away from, transfixed by the sheer ferocity they’d just witnessed, frozen of fear that moving would cause them to be the next victim.

Finally caving in the immense presence the beast exuded, the friend’s girlfriend turned and bolted, causing the beast to lurch into motion. Like a bullet fired from a high-power rifle, it shot past the two who still stood rooted in place. The friend was not so fortunate to escape unscathed. The tail of the monster slammed into him as it shot by, the force propelling him into a nearby wall. His body fell limp to the ground, a bloody splattering covering the wall where his head hit.

His girlfriend had not been so lucky either. She was now a bloody carcass on the pavement, the only one left alive being the son’s girlfriend. Still unable to get to her feet, she wept hysterically as the demonic assailant turned to face her, lumbering with a gate so fluid it was almost like it was swimming through the air. It’s muzzle stopped only inches from her face, nostrils flaring as it studied her scent. The beast suddenly snorted, growling almost in disgust as she shook and wept before it, turning and moving past her, leaving her none the worse for wear. At least, physically speaking.

Watching as the monster that would now forever haunt her nightmares disappeared into the darkness, she began to wail hysterically, crawling over to her boyfriend’s body, taking his head into her arms and cradling it against her body as people from the clubs finally began to filter out, wondering exactly what had transpired out in the streets on this hellish night.
