Sean and I (and everyone, really) were discussing the fact that President Obama is creating a panel specifically for women's issue. We then went into discussing how UMass (state-run chain of public universities) has a STUDENTS resource center and a WOMEN'S resource center, but not a MEN'S resource center ( Read more... )

We(P&G HR)have done some panel studies about that same subject, and it came down to one thing. Men generally won't attend things labeled for men, or admit they might enjoy them. They see that need as a sign of weakness or vulnerability.

Ask yourself this: If you saw a sign on a door that said "Men's Resource Center" would you go rushing in? Or would you believe it to be a penis enhancement place and worry who might see you going in?

But the real bottom line is they don't have men's resource centers for two reasons: 1) They can't offer beer there; and 2) Women are really the only resource a man will ever need, so technically there's a man's resource center on nearly every corner!! hahahahhahaha! Kidding, just kidding!!!

I think you are right. Saying that I also believe that women have had the short end of the stick and that it is good to see a chance for them to move more to the center.Men we have had it our way for so long that we fell it is right, but take the time to have a honest look at the differences, we as men have taken advantage of,even if it was to just be silent, and you also will be proud of the gals. I had a personnel experience of this un-uttered difference at the first job I had. I was in high school and was working nights at a cabinet plant. I was relived every morning by my mother who did the exact same job. I being a man was paid $2.00 an hr. more plus .50 for night shift. I knew this was wrong and asked mom about it. I was told by her it was alright that's the way it is. knowing this was wrong I said nothing. So go girls.
