The heat is here and it’s real. It’s an ominous, oppressive sauna outside, steaming your flesh and slapping you down. I’m almost always out of Korea in early August, so I’ve forgotten just how goddamn hot it can be. We’re talking Mississippi, Burma... Sierra Leone. Just the slightest exertion causes my shirt to become soaked with perspiration ( Read more... )

And this, all this, is why I'm going back in three weeks. How do you accurately explain to people back 'home' that you left your soul somewhere else? Impossible.

Beautiful post, thanks for this :)

6 years eh? You were practically a newbie when I first watched you on stage, ripping up the stage with MY bass, at Poetry Night 2004! Or was it 2005?

For my 6th anniversary I was still in Seoul. It was world cup 2002.

I just saw the proofs and the final cover of Culturebook MMX. I'll have the finished book in 2 weeks -- 275 pages. You should have your copy by the end of the month.

Where did I get the funding? From God! Who else?

If Korea were a soap opera, it would be called The Young and the Breastless.

Oh that's just wrong!

"Deok, or Korean rice cakes are culturally cherished, but they're really like eating concentrated apathy."

That's a great line. A veritable quotable quote. If I ever use it, I'll be sure to credit the source.

SKorea was very very good to me as well. It's been 8 months since I last visited the ROK and that's the longest I've been away since 1996.

SKorea is a great place if you see beyond all the, "We Koreans..." and "Oh, you can use chopsticks!" nonsense.

Congrats on your anniversary. I'm always impressed by people who can go somewhere new and make themselves at home.

I like reading yer shit when I'm drunk. I really love yer depictions of Korean seasons. THEY are a good metaphore for godliness, which is next to cleanliness. Here's an unsolicited plug of my forthcoming book in excerpt. Thank CT ( ... )
