I think most of us are pretty jaded about air travel these days. Airlines are trying to cut costs wherever they can, and it’s usually safe to say that anytime something goes wrong, you can expect to end up unhappy without any signs of concern from the airline. This is especially true when the problems are related to weather.

Iceland is pretty awesome, and IcelandAir gives free stopovers. Unless you're heavily into drinking/knitting/Icelandic history, I'd recommend giving Reykjavik a day, and then heading out of town for a long weekend (I really liked staying just outside Akureyri, and seeing the area by horseback). The Blue Lagoon is amusing, but I thought some of the pools favored by the locals were more enjoyable.

I'm still so jealous that you got to go to Iceland, though. Even if it was an unplanned stay. I want to go investigate the rocks and sit in the hot springs :) The food sounds ... interesting. I'm not sure how long I could do that :P
