the writing thang

OK, so I've done my "creative recovery," as Julia Cameron of 'The Artist's Way' calls it. I am at last starting to write; I've been trying to for years. And as my darlin Dad - a writer himself who believes in me - says, "it's about time ( Read more... )

My older sister is a freelance writer, has been doing it for over a year, loves it!! She enjoyed all of her english classes throughout high school and college. Her poetry is amazing, and I fell in love with writing my junior year of high school cause my teacher had a huge influence on me and from then on, my writing has been an important part of my life.

I have to take a writing test in order to graduate, The WEPT test it's called: Written English Proficiency Test.

Anyways, good luck with it all.

Is the point in writing the GHS story so that others can be entertained? I think it is a chance for you to organize the events, sort through your experience and heal. Hopefully you will gain some more insight as you work through this process, and your readers will benefit as well.

Write this for you, and your readers will grow with you.

PS Might I suggest you keep a journal for writing reflections about your writing? Sounds odd, but it might help to compartmentalize the procrastination bits. If you can file them away separate from your GHS work, maybe they won't get in the way so much?

You know, I am writing it because it's a personal experience - and a huge one at that - and I want to be able to recall it. I've always hesitated on doing memoir stuff because 1. I doubted it would be interesting to others (see above) and 2. I didn't know if I could recall it. Sounds crazy, I know. But I'm not a past dweller; I'm a completely "let's move on" person. Too much so, I decided lately. You have to own your past pain as well as the past joy. So it's time to start crackin this melon for details and stuff. I have a fiction book I wanna write someday....I even have the characters all planned and have written a few passages. But that is a huge undertaking, and I think I need some practice first. What better way to get started than writing a piece of my own story, which I know best. As Julia Cameron says, just start ( ... )

*SNORK!* I can see it now:

Eizzej and Ssas giggled as Ailam stepped up to take the opening tip. Sure, she has a 24" vertical, but she's the shortest player on the team.

Of course, she beat the tall girl to the ball.
