Zac’s with Vanessa officially, and Lucas mentions a girlfriend sometimes although nobody really takes him seriously, but one thing’s for sure - they are absolutely not dating.
The occasional tryst in one another’s trailers or hotel rooms doesn’t count because anyone can do that with anybody else. Hell, people pay for that, and that’s definitely not called a “relationship.” So what if Lucas kissed Zac on the last day of filming HSM2? It was just a farewell thing, because it had been their lives for ages so nobody was in their right mind that day, having to say goodbye. Ashley kept bursting into tears one minute and being super perky the next, so the kiss really wasn’t such a big thing. Besides, Lucas had always been flaming, and Zac? Obviously gay enough to top him.
The trouble was, it was a big deal. It was such a big deal that Zac couldn’t kiss Vanessa without thinking of Lucas, couldn’t go more than a week without texting or IM-ing or some kind of contact, which Lucas was bizarrely accommodating about.
The first day of rehearsal for HSM3, Lucas pulls him aside and kisses him again, full on the mouth, murmuring “Missed you” and grabbing at his hips like they’re not in a semi-public bathroom where Corbin or Kenny or someone could walk in any second.
“So, listen,” Lucas says seriously after Zac successfully disentangles himself (or after Lucas jerks him off in an empty stall, depending on whose side of the story you’re hearing), “I kind of… you know this thing?”
“What thing?” Zac asks. He’s not rubbing Lucas’ right cheekbone with his thumb, he’s not, because that would be such a girly thing to do.
“This… whatever this is, with us.”
“Yeah.” Zac half hopes Lucas will ask him to be official, not in the Vanessa sense but the calling-each-other-secret-boyfriends sense, because Zac’s kind of lame like that sometimes.
“Well, you’re with Vanessa and everything, so I knew you weren’t, like, serious-serious, you know? So… I kind of have this other thing going on now too. With Corbin.”
Zac’s eyebrows shoot up. “With Corbin?!”
“Whoa.” Lucas lifts his hands and makes a “calm down” motion. “I didn’t think it’d be an issue - I mean… you have someone else too.”
“Corbin Bleu?!” is all Zac can splutter. “Our Corbin? The Corbin we work with? That Corbin is your Corbin?”
“He’s not my anything,” Lucas retorts a little snappily. “It’s just sex, that’s all.”
“How long has this been going on?” Zac manages to ask, and wow, he totally sounds like some jilted wife in one of the soap operas his mom watches but he can’t seem to help himself.
Lucas shrugs. “A few months. You were always busy with Vanessa, I was bored, he was bored, and it just… happened.”
“And you tell me this now?”
Lucas just looks at him for a few seconds, gray eyes intelligent, searching, like he’s trying to figure something out. “We’re not together, Zac,” he says slowly, never breaking Zac’s gaze, watching for a reaction.
Zac clears his throat. “Of course not. Of course. I just, kind of…” Ridiculously, on top of everything else, his pride is hurt. “I wasn’t enough for you?”
Lucas chuckles at him and he feels vaguely annoyed, like he’s not being taken seriously or something. “What? That has nothing to do with it, Corbin’s just… different. It’s a new dynamic for me - it’s fun to try. He lets me top.”
“I’ll let you top,” Zac says under his breath. “You just have to ask me.”
“…Wow, I really didn’t think this would be a big deal.” Lucas’ tone is concerned now, almost apologetic. “I mean, you do it with Vanessa…”
“It’s not the same,” Zac protests. “Like, there’s nothing there between us, we’re just… we’re just together out of convenience. We like each other, but we’re not in love.”
“I’m not in love with Corbin!” Lucas says, laughing at the notion. “I’m not in love with anyone.”
It’s surprising how much that hurts Zac. It’s like someone stabbed him in the chest or something. The thing is, he was off his guard, not primed to absorb it, and now he feels… well, devastated. Ironically, Zac only realizes that he’s probably in love when Lucas tells him he isn’t.
“Z?” Lucas says quietly (it’s Lucas’ nickname for him - they have nicknames, for God’s sake). He tilts Zac’s chin up and meets his eyes. “Are you okay?”
“Fine,” Zac says, voice a good half-octave higher than normal and not exactly even. “Fine, I’ve got to…” He gestures to the exit and Lucas nods, accepting what he’s saying but not without an air of suspicion. “See you on set?”
“See you on set.”

Corbin’s not a bad guy, is the worst of it. Zac and Corbin’s characters are BFF’s so they spend a lot of time together, and Zac’s got to know Corbin pretty well. He never would’ve guessed what was going on with Lucas.
“Sooo,” he begins. They’re both taking a breather after a pretty intense hour of rehearsing “The Boys Are Back,” and now they’re sitting on the floor of the studio, panting slightly and drinking water like their lives depend on it. “You and Lucas.”
Corbin jerks a little, surprised, and almost doesn’t meet Zac’s gaze. He manages, but it’s a struggle. “He told you,” Corbin says - not a question but a statement.
“Yeah,” Zac responds anyway.
Corbin sighs. “It wasn’t, like… I’d never done this before Lucas, we’re just. Trying something out, seeing where it goes. He’s good.” He grins. “I suppose you know that for yourself, though.”
“Yeah,” Zac says shortly, and Corbin’s smile fades.
“Listen, he said you guys had a thing going, but it was a no strings kind of deal. Sorry if I muscled in on something, dude.”
“It wasn’t your fault.” Zac eases to his feet, sets down the water bottle, and stretches. “You wanna go again?”
--
It’s not long afterwards when Lucas comes to them with a proposition.
“Sex with you is great,” he says tenderly, running a fingertip down Zac’s bicep, and Zac can’t help but beam like a schoolboy with a crush. “And with you it’s awesome,” he continues, turning to Corbin and flicking his curls fondly. Zac’s blush fades. “So I thought…” He trails off and waits for them to figure it out for themselves. They don’t. He rolls his eyes. “You,” he begins, looking at Zac, “and you” (he turns his attention to Corbin), “and me.”
It takes a second for them to get it.
“Wait, like. Like a threesome?” Corbin asks nervously, and a perverse part of Zac is glad to see him uncomfortable.
“Yeah!” Lucas seems so excited about this, Zac notes, the sadness knotting together in his stomach. “What I figured was: I’ll top Zac, because Zac said he’d let me, and Zac can top Corbin.”
“Um.” Zac eyes Corbin, and now it’s his turn to be nervous. Sure, he likes the guy, thinks he’s pretty good-looking and everything, but…
“So, it’s settled?” Lucas asks, derailing his train of thought.
“I guess,” Corbin says with a shrug, and then they both turn to Zac and he has to say yes because, what, like he’s actually going to wimp out on them. He hates being a guy sometimes. The machismo really gets in the way.

So somehow Lucas obtains the keys for the bedroom set in what’s meant to be Gabriella’s house. Zac doesn’t ask.
“Nice and roomy,” he says, leading them in. They’d get in big trouble just for being in here, let alone for what’s about to happen. Lucas settles himself on one side of the bed, reaches for Zac’s hand and pulls him down to spoon him.
“Relax,” he whispers, kissing at the lobe of Zac’s ear, and Zac does because… Lucas. He’s too blissed out to even really notice when Corbin clambers next to him on the other side, and he laces his hand around Corbin’s waist without a second thought. Lucas eases off his own shirt and then Zac’s, while Zac focuses on Corbin’s. Pants come next. Zac can feel Lucas’ erection digging into him and hardens almost instantly.
Corbin looks over his shoulder and kisses Zac lazily, twining their tongues and brushing their lips together sloppily. He guides Zac’s hand to his cock just as Lucas reaches forward and grasps Zac’s. Zac writhes in pleasure, jerkily jacking Corbin off simultaneously.
“Me first,” Lucas whispers, and Zac nods against Corbin’s shoulder. It stings when Lucas slips his fingers inside. Tears spring to Zac’s eyes but eventually his body is ready to accommodate them, and Lucas slides them out and slips himself inside. Zac does prefer to top, but it’s Lucas, and it’s Lucas inside him. It feels nice to be filled. He could get used to it.
They build up a steady rhythm, Zac fondling Corbin all the while, and then Lucas slows, commanding, “Now.” He leans over Zac’s shoulder and presses a kiss to the back of Corbin’s neck. “He doesn’t need to be prepped.”
Zac knows that means the two of them fuck on a regular basis, but he’s not thinking about it right now. “Ready?” Zac murmurs into Corbin’s ear instead and Corbin nods, his curls bouncing a little at the movement. Zac already feels so full, so complete, but his cock is rock hard and he needs some relief. He strokes himself roughly several times and then lines himself up. Corbin moans a little when he enters, jolting when Zac finds his spot. Zac squeezes harder around Lucas and says for the other boy’s benefit, “Okay.”
Lucas thrusts, pushing Zac even deeper into Corbin. Between Corbin’s tightness and Lucas slamming into him at just the right angle, Zac’s not sure how long he can last. Corbin rests his hand on top of Zac’s, helping Zac jerk him off, and Lucas trails his fingertips up Zac’s side to pinch at his nipple.
“Fuck,” Zac gasps, biting Corbin’s shoulder as the intensity of giving and taking all at once begins to overwhelm him. Lucas’ movements are becoming more irregular, a sure sign he’s close, and the sounds that Corbin’s making suggest he’s almost there too.
“Don’t… stop,” someone implores raggedly. It could even be Zac and he’s just too far gone to notice, but regardless, they all obey. Lucas comes first - Zac can feel it inside him, filling him with heat, and that’s enough to push him over the edge himself. He spills into Corbin as shudders of pleasure wrack his body, still clutching Corbin’s cock when the other boy climaxes. He jacks Corbin off sloppily, and then it’s harsh breathing and soft fingertips and sated kisses all round. Corbin turns over, lays his arm across Zac’s chest, and the two of them take turns making out with Lucas in a tangle of sweaty limbs and bed sheets.
Somewhere along the line, Zac begins to think that maybe sharing Lucas with Corbin isn’t so bad after all. The pleasure was unparalleled and he and Lucas still got to fuck and touch and kiss, only now there’s an extra charge there, something different, and its name is Corbin. It feels good to be in the middle - safe - and yeah, truly? He doesn’t mind it.
Zac glances at the prop photo of him and Vanessa that’s sitting on Gabriella’s bedside table and decides to take what he can get.
