Summary: "Wilson, is this a date?"
“So why not out to dinner with Julie?” House asked as they were seated.
“…She was busy,” Wilson said, avoiding eye contact.
“No she wasn’t. You wouldn’t invite your best friend to a restaurant that sells twenty dollar steaks just because there was no one else to fill the reservation.”
Wilson sighed.
“I’m right.”
“You’re always right, House.”
“Marital problems?”
The waiter, a kid probably about twenty two, placed their dishes in front of them with some difficulty. House pulled his twenty-dollar steak towards him enthusiastically, and said nothing more about Julie. But about halfway through the medium-well behemoth he was devouring a thought occurred to him.
“Wilson, is this a date?”
His friend looked thoughtful. “I think it is.”
House looked slightly uncomfortable, but smirked in spite of the huge wad of meat hiding in his cheeks. “Well,” he started. He waited until he had swallowed before he tried to finish his thought. “I always knew you were a bit queer, Jimmy, but a date?”
Wilson grinned, flicking a crouton at him. “You’re enjoying yourself.”
“I can only hope this date ends like my last few did…”
He groaned and House ceased in his teasing. For the time being at least.
“Why didn’t you tell me it was a date?” House asked as Wilson looked at the bill.
“I figured you’d go on and on about it.”
House frowned.
“But I was wrong about you, House. But that’s to be expected, even after years of friendship, I am usually always wrong.”
House held his hands up in surrender. “Sabotage is for second dates.”
“Well that gives me something to look forward to.”
