House was studying Kutner when he came in that morning.

“What are you doing, House?” Wilson asked.

“He’s wearing the same clothes he wore out last night, and Big Love dropped him off.”

“Relevant to what?”

“Well, he was out drinking last night, knowing he had to wake up and come to work today, and he’s obviously hung over.”

Wilson shrugged.

“Trouble in paradise, maybe?”

“Paradise?”

“I’ve told you my theory on Kutner and Thirteen having outside relations, right?” House asked.

“Yes. Daily. Sometimes twice a day. You know you don’t have any proof that it’s true, and even if it is, it’s none of your business.”

“They’re my fellows, it’s my business. Let’s go find out what’s wrong.” House began off in a random direction, and Wilson was compelled to follow.

“Kutner went the other way,” he said.

“We aren’t going to talk to Kutner, my dear Wilson,” House said. “We are going straight to the source.”

“She won’t tell you anything,” he contradicted.

House cornered Thirteen in an elevator.

“Good morning, Thirteen.”

“Morning House, Wilson,” she said.

“So, Wilson and I-”

“I have nothing to do with this,” Wilson cut over. “It’s just him.”

“Right,” Thirteen said, turning to House.

“I couldn’t help but notice that our dear friend Kutner came into work looking rather disheveled. He was out drinking last night with Cole, and Cole dropped him off. Normally, he comes to work with you. So what’s the trouble?”

“He doesn’t come to work with me, we just get here at the same time,” Thirteen countered. “And why don’t you ask him?”

“Well I just thought you may have some insight, from what I’ve gathered, you two are a bit closer than friends.”

She rolled her eyes. “I don’t think that’s any of your business House, but I have to go check on the patient,” she said, stepping out of the elevator.

House moved to follow her but Wilson stopped him. “Don’t do that.”

“Fine,” he said as the doors closed. “We’ll go talk to Kutner.”

Wilson sighed. “Fine.”

They got off on the next floor and went looking for Kutner, luckily for them, he wasn’t hard to find.

“Kutner,” House said, and Kutner looked up from the chart he was reading.
“What?”

“You came into work hungover,” he began bluntly.

“Yes. I figured that brilliant mind of yours would’ve figured that out when I got slobbering drunk three feet from you last night,” he replied.

“Why?”

“Because I felt like it.”

“Are you and Thirteen having a lovers’ quarrel?”

Kutner raised an eyebrow. “Kind of hard, seeing as we aren’t lovers. But I have to go,” he said, walking off at an oddly quick pace.
