2- Celebrate with Sydney before or after the holiday
Now the question really is WHERE to spend the holiday. Here are my thoughts:
When does your family celebrate? Christmas day or Christmas Eve? What about your partner's family? Where does your heart want to go for Christmas? I say screw the rental and buy tickets to fly home if that's what you want to do (saves days AND money). If it's cheaper to fly from Connecticut (I don't know WHERE in CT you're going, but sometimes it's cheaper to fly from, say, Hartford), then drive to CT with your sweetie, spend a day or two with her fam, fly to your fam, fly back and drive back up together. Yes, a lot of traveling, but you get to see everyone and spend a lot of alone time (albeit in a car) with your honey.
Cost of plane ticket = $305 + one more day off work that I wasn't planning on
Cost of rental car = $208 + gas
I think Mr. Benchly has hit the nail on the head. My choices are really based on where I want to be. I emailed my sister to ask her if she and Dr. Jones were planning on staying overnight somewhere on the way out or the way home and I haven't heard anything. I did a cost analysis of my drive to Niagara, but I'll be damned if I know how to figure out the "marginal cost" of adding mileage *wink*
I think I need to stick with my original plan and recognize that I'll be a little tight this holiday season, but hey, I've got family that loves me and a roof over my head, not to mention yummy food in my belly and a wonderful partner. So, yeah...'nuff said...
