stick shift

I learned how to drive a manual car yesterday. I picked it up in less than 30 minutes. It was fun but stressful, especially going uphill. I think I'll stick to automatic cars!

Hehe, stick is def. easy to learn the mechanics, getting smooth at it is merely a matter of lots of practice. I don't know how ppl in really hilly towns like SF manage, I'd be too paranoid about burning out my clutch.

It was hard to find the balance of the clutch and the gas at first. I would be too scared of rolling backwards and hitting the car behind me!

I hate sticks! I had to drive one once for a month or so, and it really sucked! Especially up hills...

After 30 mins, my leg was starting to hurt already... can't imagine being in stop and go traffic.

girls who drive stick are hot. lol.

i drive a stick and it just takes practice. even for those steep hills. my first stick car was a 87 civic hatchback with no power steering when I lived in SF!

after a while you're so used to it that when you get back into an automatic car your left leg is trying to make use of itself by pressing the brakes.

eek!

It was fun learning it but I don't think it's something I would willingly choose to drive.

It's a good skill to know in case of emergency though.

Beat me to it. Also if you ever find yourself renting in Europe, most cheaper rentals are manuals. It's good at least to have the basics down in case you need it.

Yes, my boyfriend has travelled all over and that's what he says, most of the cars are manuals.

If I ever have any kids, I think they should learn how to drive sticks as well. You just never know what situation may come up!
