i'm getting a new computer which will be used mostly for graphic design and digital illustration. I don't know too much about computers so i'm not sure whether i should get a Mac or if i can just stick with a PC, which is what i'd prefer. If i get a PC i could have a Zip drive installed so i can work on stuff at home and at school, but i'd ( Read more... )

i have a mac, and it's heaven. i went to the apple store the other day and the guy there was raving about how mac is the way to go especially for graphic design and stuff like that. i want a powerbook like yesterday.

if you can afford a mac, and all you're gonna do with it is design, you really should. i switch between platforms (windows & mac os) all day long and it's not really that big of a deal.

working in graphic design myself,
I would never give up my mac
never
but then again I'm a little possessive of this platform because I've used it for so very long.
OS X is a lot different than what I'm used to, and it appears to be slightly more windows-like than previous systems so perhaps the transition wouldn't be as much of a jolt.
my sister, an IT director, would tell you that PCS are equally as qualified to do the same things graphically as a mac, but I'd like to disagree on that one.

i am definitely not a mac gal, but i wanted to say i work for the computer labs at school and people have had real problems with our portable drives. half the time when they stick the disk in the mac it will no longer work in any pc - it will only work in macs until it is formatted again.

like i said, i personally don't like macs - but if all you are wanting to do is graphic design and you are going to have to switch back and forth for school, i'd actually say to get a mac so that you don't have that problem with your disks/losing work. it happens to a LOT of people while i'm at work.
