Surely each of us realize that even when someone is focusing on good things, the reality is that bad things do happen. One of my favorite quotes is from Walter Anderson:
“I am responsible. Although I may not be able to prevent the worst from happening, I am responsible for my attitude toward the inevitable misfortunes that darken life. Bad things do happen; how I respond to them defines my character and the quality of my life. I can choose to sit in perpetual sadness, immobilized by the gravity of my loss, or I can choose to rise from the pain and treasure the most precious gift I have - life itself.”
Happiness is a choice, one we make every day, regardless of the bad stuff that happens in our lives. There are times when things suck, but even then, we make a choice as to whether we are going to live our lives as a happy person or one who is defeated by circumstance.
I am glad to know others who rise from the pain and choose happiness, like yourself. :)
Oh, and I almost ran my bike into a deer on the UofM-D nature trail Thursday. He was just there, in my way, and I'm not sure which of us was more scared of the other...
It is so easy to get dragged down into the muck when all you hear about it the hardships and sadness in people's lives and to have someone who treasures each moment of joy and happiness as much as you do is a real gift in my life.
I shall take the Chuck Lesson of the Day and hold on to it as best I can, share the happiness, share the good moments, it not only makes your day better, it makes the days better of all those around you.
