Detroit to San Francisco in four days on a 23 year old 500cc Honda

I made it. 2,600 miles on an untested, untried Honda Shadow that hadn't ran in ten years. It ran flawlessly from southeast Michigan all the way to San Francisco, California

Same thing I tell my students, or anyone else who asks why I don't have a bigger bike. It has enough 'oomph' to get out of the way of trucks, and only weighs 402 pounds.

Congrats on the ride. And giggles at the ticket. Irony is a pain in the butt. (Did I tell you how I locked myself out of the house within twenty-four hours of moving in? Welcome to home ownership.)

Laugh. No, that's tomorrow. I'll park the bike on the sidewalk when I wash it.

Once a week each street has two hours you aren't allowed to park so they can street-sweeper that street. It happened that eight hours after I arrived, I was in the no-park zone for Monday morning. When I saw the ticket on my bike the next day I threw back my head and laughed.
