I finally received my official invitation to the Peace Corps as a beekeeper in Paraguay. The stuff I have to do between now and then is pretty intense. It is kind of scary to think that I will be leaving 5 weeks from today. Part of me is having second thoughts. Do I really want to do this? Two years is a long time to be away from everything ( Read more... )

If there's anybody I know that seems capable of adapting to life as a Paraguayan beekeeper, it's probably you. You seem pretty capable of handling whatever situation life throws you.

I think that only you will ever know the answer to that. I don't think any of us can answer it for you. However, I do know that you were very excited about it at one point. Last I knew, you haven't applied to grad school (and in psychology, I think that's a must), and so what else are you going to do with your year this year? I also know there are other volunteer programs out there that you can get involved with for just a year. I don't know how many of those have started already, but I do know they exist.

Yeah,
I have been accepted to one of those year long prgrams too, so that option is still available (I need to let them know soon what is happening). And I Am still excited, just wondering now. And, I can't always look at things from every perspective. That's why I had asked for help thinking of those other perspectives. So thank you.

I think you will have an experience most of us only wish we could have, and it will affect your life in amazing ways.

Hey, you're young... when else are you going to have this chance to travel for 2 years? Go enjoy yourself, I bet the experience will be the time of your life, and you'll never forget it. You can always go back to school later. Just my thoughts :).

How did you feel going into college? Were you excited and scared all at the same time? Its completely natural to feel nervous or to have second thoughts ( ... )

I think you are going to do great things in life no matter what you decide to do. I was terrified to move to a place where I don't know a single person and I'm surviving. Admittedly you will be moving much farther away, but it's only for a couple of years. I know that this is what you have been wanting to do for a while. Now, you just need to ask your self why you are getting cold feet. Is it just that you've gotten comfortable at home and don't want to leave your friends? Or would you really rather do something else? You are the only one who can make the decision, but like I said before, I have faith that no matter what you chose to do in life you will end up doing great things. That's just the type of person you are. :)

Oh, and whatever you decide just make sure you keep in touch! :)

The cold feet are coming froma wondering of whether I should be doing something else. I know I want to leave this area. I just don't know if the Peace Corps is the right way. It isn't as though I don't love my parents and care for my friends. IT is just that I feel the need to leave this area. Beekeeping sounds cool, I just don't know about for 2 years. That is why I am starting to get cold feet. It's a big decision.

How is your life in the land of much coldness? I envy you and you path toward a graduate degree. From the last post that I read of yours it sounds as though you are doing pretty well.
