Today I watched people in Target and wondered what they wanted in life. Have they reached their potential. Have they done what they wanted. Then I wondered about the balance of doing what we want and doing what others want are we really acting in our own best interests, or are we following a set of cause and effect type actions?

I'd rather suspect, which is rather mean, that those at Target are working toward something else or are there due to a cause/effect situation.

I worked there for a hot second during college and knew lots of other people at the time were going to school. Then there are those who need a job and have to work to support someone else. Then there are the people who went to school to do retail for life with the business degree. It takes all types... :)

I was actually watching the shoppers more than the people who were working there. But I think that you are right about some people who are working there.
