Original or Template version: Original
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Species: Human / Seraphim
Sexuality: Hetero, though he has questionable moments.
Appearance:
Zelos gives new meaning to the phrase 'real men wear pink'. As such, this redhead casanova dresses in loose, white pants and wears a very long, pink vest overtop of a black shirt. He also wears very long black and pink gloves and carries a sword at his waist.
Though he doesn't look that tall, he stands at a decent height (5'10"). His vivid red hair falls in long waves to about half way down his back, and he has blue eyes containing that impish spark of mischief his friends all know and... want to smack him for. It's not his fault the girls love him. Really.
One last thing is the Cruxis Crystal at his lower neck. It's a small, red sphere on a gold mount. This crystal is responsible for the angel transformation and, in essence, allows for him to don a pair of bright, yellow wings.
Personality:
Simply put, anyone's first impression of Zelos is that he is a walking libido. He flirts shamelessly with every women in sight. He claims that he only wants to have a good time and is constantly joking around, rarely taking a situation seriously.
The truth of the matter is that he acts this way because he wants to live the 'easy life' even when he knows he never will because his life only has worth as the 'Chosen One' and not 'Zelos Wilder'. He lacks his sense of identity, and seeks to get it back by acting like nothing exists to suppress it in the first place. He can be serious when the occasion calls for it, though he is like a double-edged sword at times (but he does have the best interests of his friends in mind).
Another thing about Zelos is that he is very narcissistic. He is vain about his appearance, and won't hesitate to let you know. Actually, his ego is so inflated that he might not even seem to notice.
He lives by the motto 'whatever will be, will be', and would prefer to sit back and let things run their course. His mind can change with the right persuasion, but as a general rule, Zelos will take the easy way out and side with the strongest. It doesn't make him a coward in the typical sense- he's strong, brave, and a good person overall-- yet it does make him a moral coward.
On the rare occasion, however, one might even see him get over-protective. He cares greatly for those that manage to get close to him, such as his younger half-sister, Seles. Given his inner 'self-hatred' brought upon by the words of his mother when she told him he should never have been born (he believed them), it means he doesn't necessarily care if he lives or dies himself.
Finally, what may seem strange for someone like him is that he has a keen ability to detect the feelings of the ones around him-- on occasion. He'll act about as observant of them as a brick- but that's only because his efforts to cheer someone up come off as obnoxious and loud. When Sheena was distraught once, for example, it was Zelos that realized they shouldn't be walking on eggshells around her because of how that might make her feel as a result.
Abilities/Strengths:
Besides being an excellent fighter and having the ability to use magic, Zelos's personal strengths range from loyalty to his friends, to the ability to lie like he means it. Even though he acts like he'd rather be home taking a nap, he really would fight to protect those that mean something to him.
In addition, he's got the kind of attitude that can't help but make people smile-- once they stop wanting to slap him.
Weaknesses:
Sometimes, Zelos's laziness goes too far. He slacks off at the wrong time, or let's his guard down right when he needs it the most. He also flirts too much and would fall for almost any ruse if it came from a beautiful woman.
Another weakness is, quite honestly, that he doesn't care about his own life.
History:
Zelos was born into the lineage of the current Chosen of Mana in a world known as Tethe'alla. From a very young age, he was forced to endure hardships, and was fairly secluded from the rest of the world. The reason for this was simple- To ensure his safety as the future Chosen One.
While he was still a child, it was revealed that his father had a lover. He committed suicide soon after, leaving Zelos's mother to fare for her son, and a young half-elf woman with his daughter, whom they named Seles. Zelos witnessed this woman holding a baby at his father's funeral, but didn't think much of it at the time. It wasn't until he was older and Seles ran away to visit him and their father (she wasn't aware of his death, thinking that he was only kept away because of his job), that the secret was revealed to him.
He told the younger girl that she could visit whenever she wanted, but at the same time, he felt very uncomfortable around her mother. His own mother never did much and he suspected that she wasn't fond of him, so it came as a pleasant surprise when she agreed to play in the snow with him one day. Zelos was absolutely determined to see a smile on her face, so he worked extra hard at building her a snowman!
The pleasant day all started to fall apart at the moment he called her to come see it. Seles's mother had wanted Zelos dead so his half-sister, Seles, could become the new Chosen One. From her hiding place in the bushes she couldn't see well enough to aim properly, and her killing attack struck Zelos's mother just as she stepped up to see the snowman. Just as she fell, she grabbed Zelos's shoulder and told him "You should never have been born".
On that night, his life was completely transformed. The half-elf woman was executed for crimes against the Chosen, and Seles was sentences to live under house arrest in an Abbey. He visited her often and left his Cruxis Crystal (The crystal he was born with that solidifies his status as the Chosen One) with her. Zelos himself disapproved of the arrangements but had no method of changing it... Or so he thought.
On his first night living alone in his mansion, he recited his plan: To kill two birds with one stone. To do this, he would die and allow Seles to become the Chosen One. He wouldn't have to deal with all the trouble associated with his status, and his sister could finally leave the Abbey. It was perfect! And just as he was trying to think of a way to accomplish this, he was payed a visit by Pronyma, an emissary of Cruxis. Zelos agreed to follow their plans, but it was several years before he was needed.
He grew up, in all appearances, to become a hopeless womanizer and slacker extraordinaire.
Just as predicted, the day came when a group of travelers from another world known as Sylvarant arrived. They were lead by a boy named Lloyd and Sylvarant's Chosen One, Colette. Zelos played both sides to his advantage, and even played a third side, the renegades, as well. His goal was still the same as it was that night, except somewhere along the line, he began to realize the value of friendship.
It was due to this that he ended up changing course slightly (Though still with the same ultimate goal in mind), and siding with the traitor to Cruxis, Kratos Aurion, who was also Lloyd's father. He talked Lloyd into taking Colette to the Tower of Salvation, where a trap awaited them, and then 'betrayed' them, allowing Colette to get taken away.
It was finally time for him to get what he'd been waiting years for- freedom from the title of the Chosen One, and Seles' release from life in the Abbey. He fought his former friends, losing the battle (though not purposely) and with his dying breath, revealed Colette's whereabouts to them as well as his true intentions right from the very beginning.
*In Template: He resolved many of his previous issues, finally realizing that it doesn't always hurt to trust. I'll be playing him with his previous memories.
Sample Journal Entry:
Whoa. Whoa. Hold up, here-- this? Is so not right. How did I end up back in the church? [looks around]
I know this city does some pretty funky stuff, but a warning would at least be nice once in a while! Seriously, don't we deserve some kind of consolation prize for putting up with this stuff?
And man, snowing again? I thought it just stopped. [Frowns slightly- snow and Zelos? Not buds.]
Listen, if their gonna be messing with the weather next, I'm really going to start considering that vacation home.
Sample Roleplay:
To say that Zelos was a bit pissed by the situation? Yeah, that would be a bit of an understatement. Minus the 'bit' part. Because he was pissed. They couldn't just drag him off and dump him in a church somewhere-- nope!
Because they totally thought it was cooler to reverse the weather, too. And give him some key- what, they weren't allowed to live where they wanted, now? Didn't they even get those apartments? Go figure. They were finally trying to be original. Even with their crazy little events. Instead of messing with everyone's minds, they were messing with the city around them. And he still had no idea who 'they' were.
What he did have an idea about, however, was that the decorations were looking... festive. It seemed too familiar to just ignore. Weather, he could see them doing. Time? Not so much. And he was sure it looked like they were getting ready for that Christmas holiday again. Talk about preparation in advance.
Plus, just to make everything so much greater, he hadn't seen a sign of Kallen yet. She must be avoiding him or something-- harsh, man, just harsh. He didn't even do anything this time!
The people couldn't see them anymore, he was being forced to live in something that could have passed as his closet back in Meltokio, and his hair was getting wet from the snow. Okay, he was willing to admit that there was such a thing as 'bad karma'. But there was also just plain 'not fair'. He was pretty sure the latter applied to him sliiightly more right about now.
