Why did no one ever tell me you can buy jars of garlic cloves? I used to try to eat raw garlic cloves but it didn't work out so well and I don't want to bother with garlic pills. I just discovered the jars of garlic cloves today. And why did I not know you could buy slices of jalepenos in jars???? I am adding these two things to my list of things ( Read more... )

You can actually find a lot more coupons than you think. It just takes some time to accumulate them. Watch for coupons for Marzetti's products (they come in the paper fairly often) - they have the jalepeno slices (among other things) and I've found them on sale for as low as $1.

I'm actually having a really hard time rebuilding our refrigerated groceries for the same reason. I'm so used to using coupons that if something isn't at least on sale or I have a coupon I don't want to spend the money on it unless we absolutely have to have it right now.

Luckily, boneless/ skinless chicken breasts were on sale BOGO last week after the power came back on, so we have meat.

I used to just buy stuff when it was on sale, and then use a coupon along with that if I had one. Now that I watch that show and everyone is getting stuff for free, or 50 cents max, I feel like I could be getting a better deal. For years I rarely buy stuff at full price, but it's definitely not free. I also don't get the Sunday paper, but was reading about the matchups where you match up the sale price with a store coupon and a manufacturer coupon. I'm not sure if my stores allow that though. And of course we don't have double coupons in NV. I'm sure you'll be able to get your fridge/freezer stocked back up soon since you definitely have a better hang of couponing than me!

You really can't compare real shopping to what they are doing. In at least one case, a person on that show was committing coupon fraud. They are also typically shopping at stores that double coupons, PLUS the stores are leniant on their usual policies because they are working with the show. What you see on the show isn't their normal shopping trip, it's what they are doing for tv. They've managed to get hold of what will be on sale at THAT store months in advance so that they can plan, buy coupons, etc, just to make it look like they get these awesome deals all the time.

I get free stuff occasionally. Sometimes I even manage to get overage on an item that pays for something else, but it's rare, and getting rarer.
