yeah, after seeing some gifs of last night’s supernatural, I will not be watching it.

fuck you, spn writers, for your continual assassination of a character I love, and retconning of abuse into what was, in the early seasons, a fucked up but loving family dynamic.

seriously, fuck you.

There wasn't any outright abuse in this episode, really - nothing that hasn't already been established as something John Winchester would likely do :/

There's a *suspicion* of abuse, but Dean quickly makes it clear it wasn't his dad that hurt him but a monster they were fighting, so... not sure what you think happens in this ep?

It didn't leave me *thrilled* with Papa Winchester, that's true... but there wasn't any abuse :P

Hey - if you don't mind a drive-by comment from a lurker who reads your fic - I actually think it's not too hard to read this episode in a more John-positive light, though it does take a little creative interpretation. There's actually very little direct evidence of what John was thinking; just Dean's report and one line from a cop that John said to "let him rot in there" or something to that effect rather than trying to get him out. For some reason, my brain throws that together and comes up with "John clearly thought Dean needed a break, and this farm looked like a nice place (which it was!), but Dean was never going to go for that because he's not good at taking care of himself, so John played the hard-ass so Dean would do what he was told and get some rest."

Not to say you need to continue watching the show or anything, I just like this head-canon better.
