At the !!!KABOOM!!!! the time will be...8:00.

Jun 24, 2010 17:04

So, I have learned from the EK list that there won't be a morning cannon this year. I'm not going to sum ip the argument. Instead, I have only one thing to point out. "Dude? Eight o'clock is just not that early...if you're that hung over, or you couldn't be bothered to go to bed before dawn, that's your problem, not mine."

I'm an early riser, and I loves me some earth-shattering Kabooms, but am sympathetic enough to kids & vets that I really think it's not a necessity.

I am truly sympathetic to the vets in the crowd (the real vets, not the drama-queen REMFs that I've occasionally met), and somewhat so to the kids/parents, esp. to infants. But the folks who complain it's too early? Tough titties.

Means I don't have to hike up the bloody hill at 0730. Gots time for my second cup of coffee.

BY 7:30 I'm usually on my third cup. And often done eating breakfast.

Yanno, if you had a costrel, you could bring that coffee with you... :)

Actually, those two ball-bottom mugs I got off you at Highland River last year, are pretty bloody spill-proof.

Spiffy. Not that I'd actively campaign against it or anything, but it's awfully loud in our camp, and I was dreading even my super-sleeper baby being woken screaming by it since he's already in an unusual place and out of sorts. I might not stay up all night partying, but I might well be up several times a night with him. Besides, it's my vacation. I was at my desk at 8:00 every morning until last mpnth, but that doesn't mean I don't like to sleep in when on vacation.

Of course, it does make an unmistakable breakfast alarm.

I *know* 8:00 isn't early. That's not the point. Setting the cannon off then doesn't add anything to the event and inconveniences people. So why do it?
Admittedly I'm biased b/c it's my vacation and most of the time I don't want to get up until 9 - that said, even if I wasn't there, I just can't see what it adds. If people want to get up early, they can - why impose it on the site?

I've got to disagree, although probably less vehemently than the EK list. ;-)

When I'm on vacation, *I* should be the one to decide when I wake up, not the event coordinators. Pennsic is a great place to stay up all night hanging out with friends, drinking or otherwise, and if my sleeping in doesn't hurt anybody else, what's the point of a cannon?

On vacation, 8am IS early. When the kids aren't there. :-D

Exactly! My vacation, my wake up decision.
Although, I'm so good at sleeping in (and I think all of La Belle will vouch for that)when the cannon goes off I usually just roll over and go back to sleep ;)
It will be nice not to have the noise.
