Couldnt have picked a better day to happen. I went on that walk to try
to take my mind off of the already fucked up night Ive been having (see
previous entry).
I could have saved him...Its my fault he died...I just
stood there and watched him die...
I was out jogging and quite proud of myself because I was actually
jogging. I got to the curve at the end of Fairway Crossing jogging in
the middle of the road when I saw a light from around the curve. I got
over to the other side as the car passed. I got back over to the middle
and saw something large and shadowy take a step. Being the nervous
person I am I backed off and looked from afar. Im also a curious person
so I stepped in to see what it was. The lighting was far from adequate
and I had a bad angle so it was hard to tell. It looked like a giant
beetle. I couldnt recall any giant beetles being in this area so I got
closer to look. I concluded it was a turtle. Content that I had a label
for this shadowy creature I continued my jog to the pool.
This is where
it gets fun.
On my way back I saw it again a little bit up the road. It
crossed the street and right into the danger zone. I tried to scare it
off the road. Suddenly two cars came whipping around the curve. I was
sure one would hit it. I was completely tensed up and just waiting for
its end. The bugger managed to avoid both. I went over to it and tried
to get it out of the road again but being the coward I am I wouldnt
pick it up. I tried stomping, clapping, and lurching at it. Another
light came from around the curve. Just one. I thought it was a
motorcycle or something and figured itd stay in the middle of the road
completely missing the turtle. It was a zippy little golf cart. Two
teens in it. They came speeding aroung the curve and hit the turtle
dead on (no pun intended). I could hear the shell snap. It almost
echoed through the darkness. The golf cart conitued on. The passengers
glanced back but that was all. I walked over; It wasnt moving. I cant
be certain it was dead but I wasnt about to poke and prod at it to
verify the death.
Its funny...the little fucker managed to avoid three
speeding cars but couldnt escape the golf cart...
The entire
fifteen-twenty minute walk back the snap kept replaying itself in my
head. I was about to cry. It was not the way I wanted to end my night.
I
passed the driver on the way back. I knew him. He rode my bus. I know
he wouldnt have done it on purpose like others. Its still upseting
though.
On a happier note...I managed to jog all the way to the pool non-stop
except the brief examination period of twenty seconds tops which is
about a fifteen minute jog and throw all the hills in and thats really
amazing for me.
