In Neil Gaiman's "Sandman" series, there is a character named Hob. Back in the 16th Century, Hob simply decided that the only reason people get old and die, is because everyone else does it. He said it's for suckers who don't know what else to do. So, Death decides that, fine, if he doesn't want to die, then let it be so.

There's a lot more to it, obviously, but I always liked that idea, and plan to follow his advice. Gettin' old is for suckers! Having said that, I hope that if I ever do become old, I'll be one of those geezers pulling quarters out of kids' ears.
