River like glass

I love it when the Potomac freezes -- it happens so rarely. I imagine that I can walk straight across it into the city.

I like that it still sparkles in the sun, it's not foggy looking.

It froze again?!! Wow. I vaguely remember the Bay freezing (according to what I have found, that was Jan. 1977) and walking on it. The same articles mentioned the Potomac freezing and people walking up to the bridge (I don't remember if it was Wilson or Legion).

Well, I wouldn't try skating on it or anything -- IIRC, the Potomac is a bit salty, and that keeps it from ever freezing solid. But the surface is more ice sheets than flowing water right now. Pretty.

It did freeze solid in '77 (heck the Chesapeake Bay was solid enough that people were skating on it) but it is rare.

The ice sheets sound pretty.
