Frederic Malle Lipstick Rose:
Oh, I like this. Very powdery, as advertised, with a big sweet heady flagrantly artificial rose in the middle of it which slowly shifts into candied violets. And a very focused musky undertone giving it some body. I can entirely see where this would be a smell people would loathe. I adore it.
Actually, what I think I will do tomorrow is layer it with some Miel de Bois and see if I can come up with something that smells like
the first twenty minutes of vintage Shocking, only more so -- this doesn't exactly smell like Shocking, but it smells as though Shocking were one of its conceptual ancestors. Miel de Bois tends to eat everything I put with it, though, so it should be an adventure in balancing.
Serge Lutens Un Lys:
The fever pitch of my Penny Dreadful obsession may have found its ridiculous peak; I have found the smell that may allow me to channel pre-Bad-Shit Mina Murray.
Biiiiig creamy lilies and vanilla. Very sweet, very un-Lutens-y, very not quite me either, but I really actually quite like it, all things considered. Also there's something in here that is reminding me a hell of a lot of
Amaranthine and making me wish I hadn't swapped my sample of that to
ceebee_eebee (I tried it a second time and liked it rather less than the first; but I like this one a great deal.)
