Fire and Deepness and Hugo Award Winners

I'm just starting to read "A Deepness in the Sky" by Vernor Vinge. I bought it in August but haven't started it yet. I've read "A Fire Upon the Deep" by the same, which is the first in the series and had some truly novel alien life forms that were fascinating to consider. Although I don't know how closely the two stories are related, I expect

Green Mars was dry(*rimshot*) but ok. I got so bored to death with Blue Mars I never finished it.
