I know, I haven't posted in a while, and when I do I post about a different fandom.
I'm a fandom whore. What can I do?
I mean, it’s just the way they interact with each other. How perfectly they fit each other’s needs, how casual they are with each other and yet filled with tension and absolute acceptance. A common look shared between them, one look and you can tell everything they appreciate in another. Just sheer amazement at how lucky they are to have found someone who needed them and complimented them and loved them all the same. They understand each other in a way no-one ever has, or ever will. It’s much deeper and more intimate than Sherlock’s usual deduction; it almost feels as if they have seen the deepest parts of each other’s mind and soul and are torn between taking it for granted and cherishing it with every last breath. In the end, I suppose Sherlock did. He understood how hard it would be to leave the only lover friend he had ever known, to watch him suffer and could only pull it off by denying he ever loved anyone.
I think it’s absolutely heartbreaking, how much they love each other. It’s the sort of love that isn’t easy to classify. They need each other. Sherlock needs John to tether him to humanity and himself. Because Sherlock’s face when Moriarty tried to convince John that he was ‘Richard Baker.’ He looked more terrified, I think, than any other scene in the show, even the time he saw John wrapped in explosives. The fact that John might actually lose faith in him was worse than death, in Sherlock’s mind. It seemed, for the first five episodes, that it was an insanely selfish need, but, as I pointed out earlier, Sherlock would sacrifice his own personal cocaine for him.
John needs Sherlock as something to excite him and give him a reason to live. Before he knew it, his entire universe revolved around Sherlock; he couldn’t even separate his girlfriends. None of them would ever mean as much to him as Sherlock did. And you could tell by John’s face he was so very disappointed in Sherlock when Irene came along. It frustrated and irritated him that the devotion he felt to his flatmate was unreciprocated, but he didn’t say anything about it. He even denied it, when Irene continually pointed it out to him. He only always wanted what was best for Sherlock, even if watching him obsess over her nearly killed him.
They don’t even have to be in a domestic relationship for the viewers to know that they are possibly each other’s world. They don’t have to go to bed together or kiss for us to just know. Each slipped into the other’s thoughts and hearts, unobtrusively, quietly, and never left, even when Sherlock showcased his more selfish side or when John became frustrated with the lack of visible emotion in Sherlock. They both are flawed in a way that is a lovely compliment to the other. That is why they are perfect for each other in every single way.
Well, it’s that or I’m just being all ridiculous from the left over Reichenbach feels. I will never get over that, Mofftiss. I expect some serious fanservice next season to make up for it.
