Dom looks at the slender woman lying beside him and she smiles at him. There are some who say Evie is far too pretty for him. Taking in each curve of her delicate naked body he wouldn’t disagree with them. He reaches out for the packet of cigarettes he’d discarded on the bedside table earlier and she frowns at him slightly, her lips forming a small pout. Dom knows Evie hates it when he smokes in the bedroom. He knows she wants him to put down the packet and just hold her for a bit.

He lights up.

Sensing the moment is over, Evie sighs slightly. She rolls her eyes and smiles at him once more, before getting to her feet and picking up her clothes, discarded on the floor like a shed skin, and beginning to put them back on. He watches her for a moment as she goes about her actions. She is nonchalance personified as she slips back into her dress, but for a moment she looks at him and he sees a sadness in her
eyes. Just for a few seconds, but he saw it.

Inhaling deeply, Dom instantly regrets it. As smoke fills his lungs he is reminded of the last time he smoked a post-coital cigarette, only last time he hadn’t been smoking alone. Elijah understood his need to smoke, he was the same. Dom lost himself for a moment as he remembered lying in bed next to Elijah, both enjoying a smoke; their bodies still slick with sweat and the whole room smelling of sex. He exhales loudly, shaking those thoughts from his head and glancing back at Evie, who is now dressed. "Lunch?" She questions brightly, and Dom begins to wonder if the sadness before had just been an act of his imagination.

"Sounds great." He smiles back at her and begins to get dressed himself. He does care about her, he does, and a huge part of him hates what he’s doing. There’s a small part of him however that knows there’s no way in hell he is willing to give up Elijah.

After they’ve eaten, Evie curls up on the sofa ready for her daily fix of some god-awful soap or another. Dom rolls his eyes at her and she throws a cushion at him, telling him in a less than lady-like manner to "Fuck off." He laughs and makes his way over to the couch, placing a soft kiss on her forehead he grabs his keys and heads out of the apartment. He does care about her.

He doesn’t plan on driving to Elijah’s. That’s not what he set out to do, it never is. Yet somehow during Evie’s 'soap time' his car always manages to take him there. Evie knows that’s where he goes, but she sees no harm in her boyfriend seeing his best friend on an
almost daily basis; in fact she thinks it’s kind of sweet how they can’t seem to be apart for long.

It seems only short minutes later that Dom is lighting up again, this time not alone. Elijah steals his lighter, too lazy to get up and find his own, and Dom smiles at him. Both their faces are flushed, their lips full and their eyes almost glazed over. There are some who would say Elijah is too perfect for Dom, and he wouldn’t disagree with those people either. Elijah moves in the bed and Dom lifts his arm slightly, motioning for Elijah to settle beneath it, which he does, and they lay there for a while in silence apart from the beat of each other's hearts and the small contented inhales and exhales of breath. Dom can never get enough of this closeness, this perfection. Bliss.

Evie wakes up sometime later to discover she had dozed off mid-episode, much to her annoyance - One of the downfalls of a night of passion followed by a second mid morning round. She sits up and looks around the apartment. She can tell Dom’s not home yet, as the place feels somehow empty. She smiles softly to herself and laughs beneath her breath. When he gets gassing with Elijah it’s hopeless; they can talk for England when they get going, but she doesn’t mind. She’s happy Dom’s got friends here, that he has other people in his life than just her. She moves into the kitchen and begins making them dinner.

Dom arrives home a short while later, and she smiles affectionately at him as he puts down his car keys. "What would you do if you couldn’t drive?" She chuckles. "Our phone bill would be huge if you didn’t go visit him everyday wouldn’t it! You know I’m beginning to feel a little neglected"

Dom knows she’s just teasing but feels his heart sink a little, and he moves until he is standing behind her. He circles his arms around her waist as she chatters away brightly, words he doesn’t hear. He does care about her... he does. But he’ll always go back to him.
