The sweat on their bodies dries quickly in the cold night air, leaving them shivering on the cold hard ground. Lee pulls his uniform jacket over their nakedness, pulling Kara in close.
He feels her muscles tense, his heart ticks in panic. "Kara?”
"I need to get back." She moves away from him, reaching for her pants, avoiding his eyes.
"Back to Anders," he snaps, staring at her back.
“Just back.” Her voice is tight.
“Yeah, right.” There’s nothing here. I just wanted a good lay. Only this time he thought it meant more.

This was supposed to be a drabble, but I just couldn't stop writing until it was a little more than twice the word count of a drabble. Oh well...

As their breathing slows to a normal pace and the sweat cools on their bodies, Kara tries to keep her thoughts quiet, as they had been just minutes before. When Lee pulls his jacket around them and wraps his arm around her, it's the last straw. The doubt and fear come rushing back, bringing with them the ever-present need to run. She tenses, her mind screaming at her to get back to where it's safer. Back to Sam.
I can't do this. Need to get out of here. "I need to get back." She quickly separates herself from him and stands up, pulling on her clothes, afraid she'll lose any determination she has if she's near him

If only she would realize that her running away causes him more pain than she would by staying. Then it would be less painful all around (shippers included). I'm glad you liked it, as angsty as it was!

She'd kill them both just by trying to spare him pain. And all for naught. And as much as I want Lee to say something and make the grand gesture, the moment ending in a whimper like this is horribly, tragically believable.

*squishes pilots with you* I'm glad that the pain and fear came through for the both of them (although I'd prefer them not to have pain and fear, but that's a different story). Thank you so much for the feedback!

He watches her walk away again.

(And there's no need to constrain yourself to a drabble. Not required!) :D
