Buttercup didn't like making or giving Valentine's Day cards. She especially didn't like getting any cards from anyone who wasn't family. But that was mostly because everyone always made such a big deal out of it.
Even when the cards were just some variation of romantic mushy junk. Stuff about how she was the most beautiful girl in the world and that he wished she would be his Valentine and bla bla bla. She never took any of them seriously given how they had always been anonymous.
Except this one card.
The envelope was a plain, boring white. The card itself was a generic-store bought blank and it was unsigned. Like all the others.
But she knew who wrote it.
She stared at the rust-brown "I <3 You" caking on the card for who knows how long before she decided to track down the sender.
It wasn't particularly difficult. Not when the sender had no intentions of hiding. And even then, Buttercup had a knack of drawing Butch out into the open.
"Was it from a busted nose or split lip?" She asked, her lips curling into a smug sneer as she tapped the words scrawled on the card.
"A little of both." he rolled his shoulders slowly, his face cracking into a wicked grin. "Will you write mine from a head-wound or a busted kneecap?"
"Oh please," she snarled, stuffing the card into the back-pocket of her pants and rumpling it in the process. "I'll mess you up so bad you'll have enough ink to write me a fucking novel."
"Let's see who gets writer's block first."
That year, the Valentine's Day sky burned neither Blue nor Red.
It burned Green.
