"Congratulations!" said Anne, for she couldn't spot a fellow new councilwoman and not offer her most heartfelt congratulations on the achievement. "Oh, I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw the results posted! I feel we shall be extraordinary this term, don't you?"

Although Hermione knew full well that one could never entirely trust what they read in a book, still she couldn't contain her excitement as she watched Anne walk on over. Cheeks immediately flushing a deep pink, Hermione barely managed to pull herself together- it was entirely possible that Anne knew that her life had been detailed in a novel, but just in case she wasn't aware, Hermione figured that she had to know the other woman first before deciding whether or not letting her know was a wise thing to do. Hermione knew those books down to every last word, but not all things translated well to paper.

"Oh, oh thank you," she stammered with a shy smile. "And yourself as well, my most heartfelt congratulations. I'm really quite excited to see that we have a Council completely comprised of women, and given all the speeches I heard, I certainly think everyone chosen has the capacity to do wonderful things for this island."

"I have always held firm on the fact that women can be just as good as men at anything they put their minds to," said Anne, "and in fact, we're often better. You gave a remarkable speech and I'm not at all surprised that you were elected; I have a great deal of respect for anyone who truly understands the scope and importance of the job."

Hermione lost track of herself for a few seconds, simply staring in admiration and awe, before snapping back to reality and shaking her head, face still too warm for comfort. "Oh, of course, I completely agree," Hermione smiled, "but it's still a surprise to see such a diverse group of individuals settle on five women to lead them. Um, that said... thank you, really. I did a fair amount of research on the Council, but in the end all I could offer were my own strengths. I tried not to be too ambitious with the statement, though I thought it'd come at the risk of being accused of being complacent. So many of the other speeches emphasized a need for change, after all."

"I greatly admire those people who step up and make glorious things happen," said Anne, "but I think I admire more those people who make sure that everything else is taken care of when those glorious things are afoot. I think we forget how truly remarkable even the tiniest things are, in a place like this. After all, we started with virtually nothing. Oh, you would hardly recognize the place if you saw it as it was! Little more than beach and jungle. But look at me, already I'm straying far afield of the topic at hand."

"Hardly straying at all," Hermione shook her head, eyes wide with interest- having that sort of perspective was precisely the thing that Hermione lacked, going into term, and she knew that very well, wanted nothing more than to have the guidance necessary to properly orient herself. "And I completely agree. There are many jobs that help orient or organize our lives, jobs that are so very thankless but matter just as much, if not more, all the same. Innovation and progress are important, of course, but no amount of research can really be sustainable without efficiency, and that's so much of what we're here to offer."

Her cheeks flushed again as she held up a hand to correct herself. "Rather, that's what I believe we're meant to offer. I shouldn't be so bold with my statements until I've actually had a day in the office."
