It's taken Grace quite a while to work up the courage to walk over. It's silly, Hermione's just a person, just like she is, but she's read the books more times than she can count, seen the films over and over again, and it's just like meeting a celebrity. Of course, Grace is aware that she's Hermione and not Emma Watson, and it's not as if she thinks the other girl will be comfortable talking about Hogwarts and how in love with Ronald Weasley Grace is sure she is, but she can't help but want to meet her anyway.

"Congratulations," she says, greeting Hermione with a bright smile, "I heard your speech last week. It was wonderful."

While accustomed to being to being admired for her perseverance and intellect, charisma and the ability to identify with strangers are things which Hermione has always felt that she lacked to some degree. When a young woman approaches her in the middle of the crowd and offers congratulations, it takes a couple of seconds for Hermione to react at all, pleasantly surprised as she breaks into a warm smile. It helps, too, that there's something so poised about the other girl. Collected, graceful, the sort of person that a part of Hermione has always wanted to be and an image that she's vaguely worked toward through the years. School will always matter most, but all the intelligence in the world matters less without a voice to properly situate it in the world ( ... )
