Smiling, Rachel approached the blonde councilwoman, glad to have seen her name on the posted list. The other woman had a great heart and a pretty good head on her shoulders, and Rachel thought she'd done some good things in her last year. At least with what Rachel could see.

Rachel looked around, watching the crowd with a familiar feeling of loss and relief. As a telepath, she had a certain amount of hatred for large crowds. So many minds to sort through, so many chattering thoughts, awful things, beautiful things all of it pressing in. But at the same time there was the loss of that, the habits she'd developed that were useless here. All the power that used to be at her fingertips, gone.
"Where's your man, you're still with that guy, right?"

Sookie scanned the crowd for Mitchell, and spotting him speaking with a fair few people, decided not to interrupt, her expression only growing more proud.
"But yeah, Mitchell. We're still going strong. I wish he'd made it onto the Council too, but hopefully a successful bid is better than nothing," she continued, her smile faint.

"Sorry, that's not my business. But I'm glad it's working out for him."

Her brother would probably disagree with that, but Rachel was honestly trying to enjoy things, even if she didn't succeed all that wall sometimes.
"You don't see me jumping into politics."

Gathering her hair over a shoulder, Sookie nodded.
"But I'm not saying that jumping into politic's for everyone."

Not Rachel, she didn't have the aptitude, the patience, the goals. Why set goals when she didn't know if she'd be alive one year to the next? But she didn't begrudge the others.
"Can I ask - why did you decide to run again?"

With a small sigh, Sookie shook the emotion out of her voice, grin widening. "And I guess, I don't know. I love the work. I mean, sometimes the paperwork gets frustratin' as all hell, but I love goin' to work and knowing that what we're doing makes things easier for people on this island. The atmosphere here, the people... it's all so much more positive than what I had back home. I miss Bon Temps, I do, but I want to work to preserve the peace here as much as I can. If I wasn't reelected, I would have gone to volunteer more at the Children's Office, the kitchen, all of that."

She really needed to go home when everything with the Shi'ar was done.
"Better you, then me, I'm not really patient with all those things. My idea of keeping the peace back home generally involves beating up the bad guys until they surrender or go back home."
